Spoken Tamil Essentials

For Kids

Master everyday spoken Tamil with authentic pronunciation, real grammar, and the confidence to actually speak

Does your child understand Tamil but struggle to speak it?

They're not "bad" at Tamil—they just need the right foundation.

The Problem

Here's what's happening:

Your child may understand when adults talk. They might even be able to identify letters. But when it's time to speak, they freeze. They can't form sentences. They get frustrated and say, "I don't understand Tamil."

Why? Traditional Tamil classes focus on formal (written) Tamil but don't explain how we actually speak Tamil every day.

The way we write Tamil is different from the way we speak it.

Spoken Tamil is a more relaxed version with its own grammar modifications, different word endings, and everyday expressions. Without understanding these differences, kids feel confused and lose confidence in their language skills.

The Solution:

Spoken Tamil Essentials for Kids

A 6 levelled program, 10 weeks per level. A structured course designed to teach the spoken Tamil that people actually use, building confidence through interactive activities, not just vocabulary.

After 80+ community calls, tutoring students, and consulting with Tamil professors worldwide, I created this course specifically for heritage learners who need to bridge the gap between understanding and speaking.

Each level builds on the last, taking your child from barely speaking to confident conversation over time.

What Your Child Will Learn

Over 10 weeks, we'll cover:

  • The Tamil alphabet and its sounds

  • Retroflex sounds and commonly mispronounced sounds

  • Singular and plural forms

  • Adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns

  • Building short sentences with confidence

  • Differences between written and spoken Tamil

  • Tamil philosophies and worldview embedded within the language

  • Practising speaking in a safe, judgement-free space

Course includes: Interactive lessons, weekly homework, vocabulary decks, and learning resources for families.

Level 1 focuses on mastering pronunciations, get students comfortable with the differences between spoken and written Tamil, and building confidence using simple sentences with adjectives and adverbs.

Who This Course Is For

Kids aged 7-14 who are just starting their Tamil journey or those who may understand Tamil, even have some knowledge in reading and writing Tamil but are unable to confidently speak

Dialect: Sri Lankan (Eelam) Tamil.

If you speak another dialect at home please email us to confirm whether this course will be a good fit for your child.

Please note: Students will learn to speak through using the Tamil script but this course is not a replacement for learning Formal Tamil (Writing), as our main focus in covering everyday spoken Tamil.

Example: We will explain the spoken Tamil alternatives like அவெ (aveh) for they instead of அவர்கள் (avarkal) and practise sentences with அவெ (aveh)
